My Room: Baby Bishop

My Room: Baby Bishop

The nursery for Rachel's daughter may have been done at the last minute, but the final look certainly doesn't appear slapdash. Rachel shares: Once I found out our second baby would be another girl I started thinking about her nursery. However, I didn't actually get started on anything until almost the 8th month!

The room was already painted white and I knew I wanted to keep it that way. I wanted to reuse as many items from my 3-year-old daughter's nursery as possible but I still wanted the new baby to have her own unique space. I started by painting and whitewashing the crib and then went from there.

About 80% of the items in the room are thrifted and/or homemade. As a designer I am always collecting furniture and ideas so I was excited to try some of them out in this room. When I am designing for clients I always present them with a fully thought out plan but this room came together piece by piece. When an idea came to me I just went with it and if I saw something I liked while thrifting I picked it up even if I wasn't sure how I was going to work it into the room. I wanted the room to feel sophisticated, yet playful and I really wanted to include a lot of personal touches.

Lovely, thanks Rachel! Readers, visit Rachel at Southern Exposure to see more of this room and to find out more about her sources.
