Dollhouse Design: The I'm A Giant Challenge

One of my most vivid childhood memories is making handmade dollhouse furniture with my grandmother. She taught me how to sew tiny pillows, save carpet samples for area rugs, and fashion a dining chair from a metal champagne topper. Did you know that a sample perfume bottle and a toothpaste cap make the best dollhouse lamps? The hobby is being revived by bloggers world wide. Birthed by HGTV design star Emily Henderson, the I'm a Giant Challenge is taking the blogosphere by storm. Only these designers have loftier visions than gluing an image of a wardrobe from the Sears catalogue onto a cardboard box. No, these are the dollhouses of architects, photographers, magazine editors and interior designers. Click through the gallery to see the masterpieces in progress.

The gallery above shows some works in progress. You can click through to each blog to learn more.

You too can be a giant. The deadline for entry is December 15, and there will be an exhibition in January at a Los Angeles gallery. Anyone can participate, and we may just yet. Let's see what my two and four-year-old daughters can cook up with their 90-year-old great-grandmother.

Find the details on Emily Henderson's blog.
