Beginning August 1st, IKEA will start phasing out incandescent bulbs from its U.S. stores, and plans to have the bulb completely removed by January 1st, 2011. IKEA will encourage its customers to move to other energy saving bulbs, such as CFLs, as well as its range of LED and Halogen lamps, which are 70% and 30% more efficient than incandescents, respectively.

IKEA spokeswoman Mona Astra Liss says you will not see one incandescent lightbulb in the store after January 1st, 2011. "We took the lead with the phase-out of plastic bags two years ago, and this is another initiative to make a difference," she says.
